Provost's Author Support Fund: Guidelines for Awards
The primary purpose of the Provost's Author Support Fund is to facilitate and further the
publication of outstanding scholarly book-length manuscripts or other creative work by helping
the author to defray the cost of items such as subvention required by the publisher, or special
production charges associated with permissions, figures and photographs, indexing, etc. Such
manuscripts or works may be on specialized topics of interest to a limited audience as well as
on subjects intended for a broader audience.
|
Applications that are likely to receive strongest endorsement will include one or more of
the following characteristics.
- respected publishing house, press or venue
- outstanding reviews of manuscript or other creative work
- first books
- authored rather than edited manuscripts
|
|
Applications with the following characteristics are likely to be given lower priority:
- undistinguished publishing house, press or venue
- re-publication or previously published articles, essays or other creative work
- un-revised dissertations
- edited manuscripts
- translated books
|
|
Manuscripts of the following type are likely to be excluded from consideration:
- "for-profit" textbooks
- fiction
- popularized science
|
|
Page charges for journal articles or reviewed articles are ineligible for consideration.
|
If an application for funding is not approved by the Provost's Author Support Fund review
committee, the applicant may reapply up to a maximum of two times for the same manuscript or
creative work.
