Important Information on Promotion and Tenure and Continuing Status
|
- Each year the University-level committees on promotion and tenure, and promotion and
continuing status provide our office with valuable feedback on the successes and failures of
the current processes. We then use this input to change policy, offer suggestions, and revise
our online information.
Recently we mailed out materials to help in the preparation of dossiers for the 2001-2002
reviews. To that same end, we are including the Committee feedback from this year, with
annotations from this office. The Committees' comments are in normal type, and our
recommendations are in bold type. Please distribute this information to all candidates and
committee members participating in next year's reviews.
- During the past several years the problem of late dossiers has continued to increase, to
the point that, in spite of a January 15 deadline, we were still receiving files in late April.
Failures to meet the deadline have caused serious hardship for our colleagues on the University
committees, who already contribute enormous amounts of time under the best of circumstances.
It is our impression that most of the delays occur in the department and college reviews, and
are usually not the fault of the candidate.
To resolve this problem, the following conditions will be effective for next year's review:
The deadline for receipt of dossiers in the Provost's Office will be January 15, 2002.
Files will be accepted after January 15 only with prior written request and approval.
No files will be accepted after February 1, 2002. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
If there are any questions on the information in this memo, please contact
Elizabeth Ervin at 621-1139.
