Faqryza ab Latif, CIRTL Scholar and Ph.D. student in Educational Psychology, presented her teaching-as-research project at the annual CIRTL meeting in April 2023.

UArizona graduate student and CIRTL Scholar Faqryza ab-Latif presented her teaching-as-research (TAR) project on DEI statements at the virtual CIRTL Network TAR Presentations on April 26th, 2023 (see speaker list & abstracts). The annual CIRTL Network TAR Presentations feature 5-minute presentations from CIRTL Practitioners all across the network who have recently completed a teaching-as-research project. The forum is a great way to showcase CIRTL students' accomplishments as well as network with other graduate students interested in teaching.

Faqryza's work seeks to understand how engaging students with a DEI statement at the beginning of class affects their sense of belonging throughout the semester. Using a quasi-experimental study design, she determined that students are more likely to express feelings of inclusion and belonging across an entire semester if they engage with a DEI statement on the first day of class.
